Tractor Vet and Y'All- After another test drive this morning, I have discovered that the brakes work on the right, but barely. They are enough to slow and skid the wheel on the gravel lane, but not enough to help turn the tractor in the field. Probably worn discs. Anyway, I'll be pulling it apart today and tomorrow to see. I probably ought to do both sides to be safe. Maybe also have a look at the inoperative diff lock. If it's just friction disks, they are cheap.
Thanks again! Jim

Got the one side torn down. It was a combo of lots of oil and worn disks. Same goes for the diff lock. I've got to get everything cleaned up and look closer for any other less obvious problems. The hardest pert of the job was getting the fender out of the way. Some of the bolts were very rusted

One question: There's some wear on the primarey and intermediate plates. The friction surfaces are a bit dished... kinda like a brake rotor gets on a car. They also have som blue spots. How much of all that is acceptable? My manual is mum on that topic. ThanK- Jim

Well if ya have some brake then i would suspect that there is oil on the disks or one of the adjusters is stuck and not allowen the brake to lay flat . Now as for the diff lock on it it is best if it does not work as the one on the older tractors were a pain and caused more problems then tey were worthe . Thaty is one of the things that i did not fix on the 1066 and don't plan to .
