I have a book that says there were no Super H distillates made. However, a neighbor has a Super H with the distillate manifold, radiator shutters, and start on gas tank. It is all factory and it is a Super H by the serial tag. Can anyone explain this?

i'd write down the name of the author of your book and be sure not to buy anymore that he has written.

I find this post very intresting as here in the UK all spark ignition tractors were the T V O (disterlate) type. UK built Farmall Ms and NW6 tractors were offerd with a T V O engine till the end of production in 1958. t v o stands for tractor vaporising oil. MJ

Of the 475 super H's that I have listed on the serial number list 13 tractors have the AJ suffix on the serial number plate and the A suffix stamped on the motor serial number. The latest AJ I have listed is in Colorado with a number of 28846AJ, so it was available until at least close to the end of super H production, probably later as CNKS and others have indicated. Would like to know the serial number of the tractor in question if possible. Thanks, Pat in Wis

Check the serial numbers. If it was oriignally a distilalte, both the chasis and engine seiral number should end in A for distiallte, or B dor kerosene.

I do not know the difference between a distilalte and a kerosene engine. I have an H or two back there that have different length valves than the gasoline engines.

If I remember right the serial tag did have an A stamped at the end of the serial number.

A lot of the books have many mistakes, meaning the author did not research and confirm the info and merely repeated what someone else said. Sort of like the current crop of TV "journalists". I will exclude Guy Fay and Ken Updike, and maybe one or two others from this statement. I think distillate engines were available thru the 00, possibly 50 series, ie until about 1958.

This particular book wasn't written by either of those guys but the author has written a couple other books on Farmalls that I have. I'll keep looking at a few other books.

But, distillate was still an option on Super H's, yours is not the first I have heard about. Guy Fay is the one who mentioned it being available on the "later" tractors, I do not remember the termination date, but I am positive that it could be on the tractor you described. Guy is THE authority on those tractors.

The castings on this tractor date back to early 1953. It isn't a early Super H. But you are right, it could have been an option that this author didn't know about. I wish Guy would just reply and set us all straight right now.

Distillate was available thru the end of the 350/450 series tractors.
