The PTO on 656 is starting to slip when under heavy load, feed grinder or round baler toward end of bale. It runs 57 rake, manure spreader, sprayer pump okay. Is there an adjustment or something I can check. I don't have a 600psi hydraulic gauge but is there a simple way to check and adjust or do you just put in new clutch pack?

Midnight: Having used these tractors a lot of hours, I have to agree with Aces and the Vet.

Pay special attention to what the Vet had to say about the fact it's already slipped. My experience, is you either adjust or have it adjusted every 500 to a 1,000 hours on tractor. When you notice it slip, is toooo late. Problem here is it has probably been slipping a few rpm's long before you noticed.

Like ACE said and i have said ya have to have the special fitting that has the correct thread with THE O/RING and the orface hole and a gauge that will read to 600 lbs . Now more then likely the clutch pack is already toast as they do not take slipage well . And if ya just start tryen to adjust it with out the gauge on it you could posibly BLOW the clutch piston and clutch pac apart. as about 235-265 is about all ya need for lock up pressure . So you maybe ahead of the game if you would just take the tractor in to a dealer and have them fix it . If i was doing it you would have somewhere between 250-325 in it depending on what i found if all it needed was a clutch pac and set it is not a big deal if it needed resealed then it would be the higher price.

Midnight The right way is pressure test and to do that you beed special fitting to kock up gage. To adjust pressure the valve stem out the top of the PTO needs to screw up into the square nut at top of stem. Move the handle that operates the PTO so you can see what moves at left top and you will see the stem move in and out of the PTO. Screw the stem up into the nut and see if it helps if not you will need new clutch. But you realy need gage.
