You would think after all I have done with this H (With all of your help) I could figure out the head lights.
My first question, does the light resistor have to have the coating on the coil to work? and what happens if I remove the resistor? When I check the voltage at the terminal in the head light I get 6.2 volts but when I install the light reflector and bulb it does not work and the voltage drops to 5.1 volts. what is the best way to get a good ground. I have just repainted the tractor piece by piece.
Thanks to all of you. I couldn't have done It without all of your answers to my questions

I"ve run into that several times. I"ve learned to paint the light bar with the light housings and mounting clamps untouched, (remove the retaining rings and innards and prep-paint) then the only issues for ground potential problems are the u-bolts or the steering post to deck bolts.

The best way to do that without reckin the paint is to run another wire to the light and back to the battery for ground.

I just got done redoing my lights for my 39 M and had the same problem when I put them back togather. I ended up takeing a small piece of sand paper to the inside the houseing were the reflector contacts and sanded it just a bit. Also on my 39 there is a screw used as a ground from the housing I also sanded the back side of that too. The resistor I believe is for the dimming of the lights, that might be why you drop down to 5 volts
