Tractor has sat in hot sun and thru heavy rain without hoods on it.Tried to turn motor over by hand and it would not go CW, but would go backward. Pulled plugs, still would not go CW. Hit starter. Everything seemed ok so tried to start it. Out of gas I guess. Something clunks in the T/A section and motor stops rotating very quickly. I know something isn't right here, but what is it? Any Ideas? When I shut it off, I pulled the T/A back and then moved it forward after it was stopped. ???? SDE

If you think theres a noise or problem in center housing.Stop cranking or shut engine off with transmission in gear and main clutch disengaged and see if it does the same thing. If so it may be in the PTO drive unless theres something wrong with the main clutch or bearing. Don't know if turning engine you mean CW or CCW setting on seat or faceing tractor from front, but if T/A is good engine will not turn backwards unless T/A handle is pulled back and the T/A clutch is releasing. Also if noise or binding stops when main clutch is disengaged theres a problem in T/A system or transmission drive train. Some tractors will rattle on shut down with trans.in neutral and clutch engaged and not have any problems.

I believe the master clutch, and or the TA clutch are rusted (lightly) to the Pressure plate or flywheel. Jarring them and pushing on the tops of tires when in high gear with the clutch blocked down will possibly free them/it. The clunk is a bit ominous, but getting it running and free seems the firat priority. If the exhaust was open to rain, and weeks went by there could be enough rust to cause engine rotation problems. I assume the tractor ran before the tin was removed, and the rain. good luck, JimN
