Im quite happy to say that the cub is running as of the momement. It was one of the battery terminals thank god it was that simple. Now to put the machine to work, it came with a sickle bar,and I think its called a cultivator discs and tow behind trailer. I used the sickle bar last nite in my lower field, what a trip that was!!! Nothing bad happened but I found out you need four hands to operate the beast!! To make a long story short Iwant to thank you all for your patiance , experiance and most of all your help. Thanks again. Ken

I have a mid 40"s A that just this spring I rewired! In the last 2 weeks it started acting strange like it was low on amps, and the gauge shows good charge while running! So all the sudden it would"nt start off the starter and had to hand crank it! took the 6vt batt. got it charged, still nothing! started cleaning connections, and would"nt you know it the last ones cleaned was the problem, ( replacement terminal ends at the batt.) you have lead then copped then steel clamp! need to remember to add a slice of copper or lead above the wire, and avoid all the corrosion!!!!! ! sorry for the long post!!!!! !!

As Janicholson says and also. Clean and tighten all battery cable connections. If the starter doesn't even try to turn over its stuck or you have bad connections or the worse case if the starter has gone bad. But if you have a hand crank a cub is so easy to turn over you could start it that way. Also if you try the hand crank and can'tturn the engine over the starter is most likely stuck and will need to be loosen up till it pops loose

If the lights work, turn them on, then (while watching the lights) try to start it. If the lights dim way down, the starter is drawing current, and is either stuck, Loosen the bolts wiggle then tighten, or worn out/shorted. Good luck, JimN

I guess I was alittle vaugue on my discription of my problem, sorry about that.I will try better to explain. When wanting to start the tractor for use , I pull out start button, pull out choke then pull out start lever. When I do this no sounds from starter or any where come from the tractor. I do not have any running lites to check for dimmness in lites.Connections to battery & starter are clean&tite. My guess could be loose wire ,bad on off switch or bad starter.Back to trying to start,it actes like a dead battery ,but I have power to starter. Thanks again , Ken

Put a test light on the terminal that leads into the starter from the switch with the little lever on it. If the light lights bright when you pull on the start lever, the starter is open (probably brushes) Whack the starter modestly with a hammer near the end away from the engine. If it then works, it is brushes. If the light does not come on, it is a defective big switch. JimN
