B414 - converting to spin on oil filter

I have an IH -B414 with the diesel engine and I've been researching for adapter kits to change from the cannister to a spin-on filter. I went through the Wix specialty catalogue and looked at all the adapters and phoned up the Wix technical service number. They were not of much help as they said to look at all the diagrams for the adapters and pick the right one.(I was hoping they could just tell me the right one!)
Has anyone used the Wix parts and if so can you please direct me to the correct part to order. I have attached the Wix Specialty Catalogue website address if someone can understand what is required to accomplish the conversion.

Thank-you for your help.

Hi Ken, my Dad had B414,434,384, all same tractor but different sheet metal and a few minor improvements. They all had same canister oil filter. The only problem with this canister oil filter was the "O" ring that went on the base assembly, you had to lie on your back and dig the old one out with a sharp tool. The next problem IH used to send 3 different "O" rings with the replacement filter and you had to determine which "O" ring was the correct one for your tractor. If you didn't install the correct one it would leak. The final problem was you had to make sure the canister was seated properly in the grove in the base as you tightened it or you could warp the base assembly as my brother found out.

Now I am going to get jumped on for this tip but we only changed the "O" ring every second oil filter change and never had a problem.

Hope this helps

Fromjb2,
What you describe is exactly what keeps happening to me. The cannister filter is always leaking. I've changed the gasket several times, cleaned the housing groove etc and after running a while it starts to leak again. The housing also seems to loosen after running for a time. I keep snugging it up but always worry about overtightening. Perhaps I have to put a new canister base on the unit.

Hi Ken, there is a good possibility that the base is warpped. You can ask your local CNH dealer but I don't think you will like the price.
Was about $75 CND back in the 80s the time my brother warpped the one on the 434. Were lucky and found a dealer that was scrapping a B414.
Should be able to find one from B414,434,444,384 and maybe B275.

Thanks Fromjb2,
I was thinking the same thing that the base might be warped. I found and ordered a new complete cannister assembly with base and it was only $60 something!

wkw: Go right to CaseIH, you are dealing with a British built tractor and engine.

Hi Hugh,
Just got off the phone with my local Case dealer and he says that no such adapter is available. Any suggestions on other places to try?

Thanks
Ken

Ken: Not really, I still use the old can type filters on all my tractors. The only reason I suggested CaseIH was, I had one of their partsmen try to convert me once. I guess I could never see the advantage of changing. Bear in mind my Farmalls all have drain plugs in the filter base.
