I am wondering did the real late 39 f-20's have a muffler or that cast elbow when new? Thanks Paul

Mufflers were an extra cost option, but they didn't look like an H or M muffler.

Guy Fay's data book says it was an option on the F20. There is also a picture of a new F30 with a muffler but no mention of it in the list of F30 features.

Well I just checked my 1939 IH equipment catalog and every F-20 in the book shows the tractor with the elbow. I know IH had special order exhaust systems to control the sparks coming from the exhaust for corn pickers. According to this catalog it had the elbow. Hope that helps.

I would say a cast iron elbow, besides it will look alot cleaner and a lot nicer.
