Does a 1955 cub have a water pump? If so, where is it? My is running hot and I would appreciate any advice on the best way to attack this problem. Thanks!

If the water level is above the location of the inlet from the engine, and it still gets hot enough to boil water, two things might be looked at.

Looking down into the radiator with a good small light, do the tubes look corroded and plugged up? if they do that is a good reason to have it "rodded out" at a radiator shop.
The block tends to get scale and rust chunks mixed with a mud like gunk in the bottom of the cylinders. A quality reverse flush of the system, using a good radiator flushing agent might help. JimN

There's no water pump. Are you sure it's running hot. It is a thermosiphon system and relies on differences in water temperature to circulate the coolant. Every cub I own has it's own level for coolant in the radiator. If you're concerned about it spitting some coolant out the radiator cap when you work it just keep an eye on it for a while. As long as there is coolant in the tank above the radiator tubes you are probably OK. It will spit out the excess and generally stops with the level about 1 1/2" or so below the fill neck. As long as the lower hose is relatively cool, the system is working.
Just make sure to keep the radiator fins clean so the fan can do it's work.

It does run hot and eventually cuts off and won"t restart until it cools down.
