I went back to the original place I found the 3 Farmalls in the field. One of the H's belonged to the father of the owner, so he wanted to keep it. The other was a '42 M that he said should run. He wanted $800 for because he paid that 10 years ago. The last is a '44 H. He bought it as a parts tractor, and wants $300 for it. Since I need rear wheels, and the tractor junkyards want $300 for a set, I might as well get it. However, the serial number is FBH 160065 X5. I've never seen X5 before. The last time I saw anything other than an X1 was on an M, and that was X20, and I was told that it was a weird configuration and I should stay away from it. So, is this X5 the same thing? Would I not be able to use it for parts for the '47 H X1 that I am planning on getting?

Thanks Kieth. If the H up in Yuba City doesn't work out, I'll call the guy in Indio and see if I can work the price down. Thats about $1000 more than I wanted to spend to get started on my restoration project.

Good tires and paint with three pt is a good buy at 1500 you aint going to find one for 500 without spending 1-2 thous to get it running with some tires. The one with the big tires and different hubs would be pricey if he gave it to you it would take 6-8 hundred just for good rims and tires with the correct hubs not to say all the expence of running around for the rite stuff.

$300 for a parts tractor is a good deal... $300 for the wheel castings is crazy!

I believe "X5" means High Altitude.... 5000 feet.

So I'm assuming that the pistons aren't compatable. Would the block be the same?

And everythign other than the pistons is the same?

I wonder why a high alt tractor is in the California Central Valley! lol

The pistons & sleeves will work in any standard H, if they are any good. As old as these tractors are, it my not even have to origional high altitude pistons still in it. The high Altitude pistons have a "bump" on top that increases the compression a little. A disireable thing to have, if they are still useable. ken

Yes X5 means 5000 foot altitude engine. All that means is the engine has higher compression pistons than the regular engine. The serial # is mid 1944, so everything should work on your 47. ken
