There appears to be water in my 300's hydraulic oil, at least I THINK it's water. It looks a lot like a greyish light-colored chocolate milk (the color you get when you mix Hershey's chocolate syrup with milk) - doesn't taste like it, though . . .
Anyway, I have replacement screens for the main filter and the pressure release screen (both of which were collapsed, and full of crud - maybe from an old hose?) but at $50 and $75 respectively, I'm kind of reluctant to install them until I get the crud flushed out first. How I do this?
Thanks,
Tex

Flush out with diesel fuel then drain every place that you can remove a line hose what ever then replace any O/Ring that is needed. Refill with hyd. oil and run for a few hours and drain that and refill again and keep the old girl under cover when not in use.

When the tractor is cold, I would remove old screen and drain as much fluid as possible from the res. If you can, use a suction gun (looks like a grease gun that sucks) to get all of the fluid you can out of the system. I would then replace the screen and fill the res with new fluid. I would use an open hose on a remote cylinder connection into a bucket. Before starting the tractor, move the control lever to the position that will apply pressure to that hose. Then, with the lever moved, momentarily start the tractor 10 to 15 seconds. This should flush out that line into the bucket. If milky fluid is still comming out fill the res with new fluid again, and repeat until new fluid comes out. Then connectr to the other remote line and do the same thing, till clean fluid comes out. Refilling of course to prevent air from entering the pump. Next (if i was thorough) I would remove one of the FH cylinder hoses and blead that till new fluid came out. then the other side of the FH cylinder. This process prevents old fluid from being sucked back into the res. and also prevents the mixing (as much as possible) old and new fluid. Working the tractor for several hours will eventually drive off the remaining moisture from the system. Good luck, JimN
