My starter went out on my 300U. I had it rebuilt, but my question is, should I lube the bendix gear before I replace it?

go ahead and lube the starter shaft when you put the starter drive on.

My self I never lube ay of it, the reason why is that dirt etc then sticks to things and the bendex can/will hang up and not owrk correctly. You can use a dry lube but I wouldn't use oil or grease
