Which light shitch knob is orignal on a 1940 H?

The one on the left was on the H when my son's wife's grandfather died. When I took the light shitch out it look orignal.

Thanks

Carl I think farmall H serial number 501 to 33895
used the handle. So some 1940 did and some didn't use.

Dave
Thanks for the information. What you stated makes sense because the Ser.# on my H is FBH27484.

Elk Farmer, All I know for sure is the one on the left is pictured in the `39 H parts book I have.(printed in 8/39) I have the same knob(one on the left) for my `39 H that I`m restoring. Mark

Thank you Mark, I suspected as much. I knew I had seen that one on the left somewhere.

The one on the left kinda looks like the turn signal switch from later tractors. I can't tell if it is or not, but I know the 715 combine we have has one for the turn signals that looks kinda like that.

The 1940 H I have uses the round knob. I have not seen any other style on any letter series tractors.

All I have seen use the round knob, but the other one does look vaguely familiar. We need to remember that quite a few of the earlier letter series tractors left the factory without the starter and lights. Those were optional at extra cost, so the electrical system was added at a later date. So if the current upgrade package included the round knob, that is what you got, even though that may not have been what was offered when the tractor was brand new. It often is a mystery.
