I am in need of a distributer cap (or if you prefer mag/ dist. cap) for a Farmall B. Ordered a Westward (Cdn jobber) got one that will fit an H or two that I have, nowwhere deep enough for the B. Ordered one from CNH, closer but still not deep enough. Wife went to the city today with old one in hand (has IHC stamped on it). The nice 20 year old partsman told her that is definitely an oddball, but he could make a conversion for $ 400 Cdn. Luckily he was talking to my wife and not me. I have what I'm sure is the same cap on an A a C and this B and I think all are originals (with mag). Can anybody help me out with a part number????? ? I know don't tell me I need a parts book. I'm also trying hard to get this B running for a parade in 10 days. (also hope to parade A, C, H, M, W4 and W6.

So, is it a Magneto or a Distributor? IH only made a million of each and caps are readily available everywhere.

Dist cap on left, mag on right, notice mag cap is taller.

Here's a cap from a common US jobber:

47413 DYC, includes brush, 47413 DXC with no brush. Those are for an H4 mag, if you have another mag that may be your problem. These numbers are out of my Super A, C, and H parts books. An H4 is an H4. The mag caps are not the same as the ones for a distributer. In my C, H, M, etc books that number is 351693 R92. And, it DOES help to have a parts book, because then you have a number to give the 20 year old, he may even have enough sense to look it up.

I don't know what is on your tractor. But from the factory a Farmall B had an IH model H4 magneto on it. It is the same magneto as an A, AV, BN, C, H, M, W4, W6 and several balers.

A Case/IH dealer will have them, as will many aftermarket parts houses. You could also probably get one from this site.
