How to replace a bullgear shaft seal on a Super W4

I was changing my disc brakes on my Super W4 and noticed oil coming from the seal. I was wondering how one changes this without taking the whole thing apart ? My book also shows three different numbers for the seal. Does anyone know which is correct and a good source for these besides the dealer ? Are these leather seals or like a modern seal?

Thanks for your time
ED J

Seal retainer casting should have an o-ring holding it into the transmission housing; remove the seal retainer carefully. Replace the seal, clean & pre-lube the seal surfaces, and reassemble.
Replacement seals are new style. Dealer will locate latest revised part #. Be sure to clean/file the shaft splines so the discs can move freely when applying the brake. Clean & sand out the ball groves; replace any springs & balls if needed. A little high-temp brake cam lube on the shaft & balls will help.

Well I was in the shop today I cant seem to get the inner braking plate off to get at the seal. I tried with a screwdriver at the recessed prying points on the back of it . I only could get it to move about a 1/32.

Any suggestions ?

If you can move it, the O-ring is what is holding, keep prying a little at a time and it should come out.

Ed, On the H Farmall, you need to remove the bullgear to get the bearing housing out. At least the ones with the band brakes. Never worked on one with disk brakes yet. ken
