The H that I found in the field isn't for sale. So, the search continues. But what's the best way to search? I would like a late 40's H that I can restore into a Show Tractor. Whats the best way to find one in your local area?

Drive the back roads, if you can afford the gas that is. Look in the ads on this site, or ads in papers or even put an ad in the papaer. Shoot I have 2 of them I'd sell both run well but both need TLC.

I'd be interested in learning more about them. Especially location. I'm not sure how I would get a tractor to me from across the country, so location is a pretty big factor.

Yup, I'm in Central California. The pics you have of your tractors for sale are pretty difficult to see. But I could tell it was a Farmall. hehehe

Ever thought about driving out to Cali for a vacation pulling a tractor? hehehe

Here in the midwest you don't need look very long or hard to find a Farmall H. Just about all of the farm machinery consignment auctions will have at least one. The real trick is finding one that will be represented honestly, which usually rules out buying at the auctions, unless you personally know who the seller is.

Mike, I agree with others on how to look but I always found that keeping my eyes open and my mouth shut worked well. I never jumped on the first tractor to come along either. Wait patiently, someone will mention a tractor in a conversation, I found both H's and my B250 that way, avoided a bidding war by giving the owner a fair run down of what I felt the condition and price of the tractor would be on the market and offered a price, then left them to decide,it worked everytime, I always felt that I had got a good price and the owner was satisfied. You will find that as people in the community know you like old iron you will hear about more and more tractors....Mike in Exeter Ontario

Mike: In some respects, this is not an inexpensive hobby. I know some guys are recomending placing a want add. You will find that will yield many responces that don't even come close to your criteria.

I have 3 Farmall tractors and about 20 attachments or implements. I will admit I was quite specific about items like options, etc. It took me some 45 years to collect all of this, although I will admit it has only been a serious endevour for about 15 years. If I had a $10. for every wild goose chase I've been sent on only to find I had driven a lot of miles for something not as advertized, I'd need another wallet.

If I counted the actual cash outlay, plus time and driving, my 3 tractors and implements would be worth $45,000. Could I sell it for that, not a chance, I'd be lucky to get 30%.

In short, you'll be lucky to find exactly what your looking for during the first year. My experience has been, if one rushes to find something, he always pays too much.

I know a guy with 84 restored letter series Farmalls. He started 40 years ago and at the time was long haul trucking half way across this continant. He had heavy enough equipment, so there was always enough room for a Farmall on that flat bed trailer. The last time I talked with him, he was still looking for 4 tractors to complete his set.

You could also try the classified ads on this page.
I bought an H that way a few years ago.

Try a want ad in the local paper,

"Wanted: an International/Farmall model H tractor in restorable condition, reasonably priced. Prefer a complete tractor, running is a plus! Please call 555-555-5555 with information."

Try it, you'll only be out a few bucks.
