Just an update - bought another H!

Heading back to AZ on Tuesday, school starts on August 7th this year for my wife and I. She has a class starting July 31st, I need to be at work August 2nd. I'm still teaching 6th and she is teaching 3rd again.

I bought my Dad's H a couple days ago for $1500. My mom's cousin bought it from Dad around 1978 with a fresh overhaul by my Dad. He only had it a couple of years before it blew a rod bearing and he replaced it with a D15 Allis. It sat for a year before he overhauled then was sold.

Anyways, now it's back in the family. I paid a little more than I thought it was worth, but it has 4 new tires on it and runs well with all working gears, etc.

So my H is 101816 which is an early '42 with the old style PTO and distillate engine and cast hubs made for rubber and Dad's is 122068X3B which is one of the last ones made in '42 with kerosene engine 5000 foot altitude and the newer style PTO that sticks out farther along with cutoff steel. Sorry, didn't have the camera along the other day when I bought it, no pics.

There is one more letter series I want to add to my collection someday: a Farmall B. Dad ran one growing up cultivation corn, hauling manure, stacking hay, etc. and talks about it all the time.

Hope I haven't bored you to death! Here is the latest aerial photo of my Dad's farm:

Let's see here:
F-12, F-14, A, H, H, W-9, several IH stationary engines, 544, 1256, 1086, 4000 swather, 1460 axial flow combine, an old 100 manure spreader, '51 IH L-120 pickup, '51 IH L-160 truck, and I think that's about it.

Used to have a 914 pull type combine, an 806, 100 press drills, 7200 hoe drills...

IH equipment has served us well. We also have a Case 2590 and a JD 8630. Crimes of opportunity is what those are...

Steven, that's good news, getting the H will have sentimental value. Its hard to believe you are heading back to school, Ontario schools don't start until the first week of September, hope you had a good rest and are charged up to deal with your new classes. Are you taking the H to Arizona to work on or is it staying at "home"? You take care for now...Mike in Exeter Ontario

The H's will stay at the farm. For the cost of hauling and storing a tractor where I'm at in AZ I can buy another one!

Down in AZ I have my cars to work on, and I'm hoping to buy a "project" vehicle to tinker with as well this year.

I'm ready to go back to school, this year of farming was another loss - dried up to the point of getting about 1/3 of the crop we could have had. I'm happy that I have a job off the farm at this point. :o)

Thats good news! I'd like to see a picture of it.

I found out today the run-down H I wanted to buy the owner won't sell because it was his father's tractor. He would sell me his beat to heck M for $800. So I'll be passing on that "deal". An M is too big for my garage anyway.

So, I'm going to start searching for a cheap late 40's H to restore.

I know of several running H's and M's that were bought for $800 or less in the last few years. They are out there if you have the patience to wait for them.

Watch the classifieds on this site, almost every week there is at least one running H/M for around $1000.

I wish I would have had the camera when I was out to look at my Dad's H. Just didn't think of it and it's a long drive to go back, plus I'm leaving for AZ on Tuesday.
