I posted a Question about this a while back but I just got to working on this. I took it apart today and everthing looked ok . Everything moved freely and still hooked up and no broken pieces. So I cleaned it out relubed it all and put it back together and started it up and the same thing happens. 2 notched up the throttle and then off to the races it goes. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance Steve.

When I took the governor apart I didn't change anything. I just cleaned it out and there was nothing loose. or broken parts. just put it back together no change. Thanks. Steve

With the carburetor-to-governor linkage removed at the governor lever, the carburetor butterfly shaft should reach it's "end of travel" just before the governor lever does. If the governor lever moves A LOT beyond the point where the carburetor throttle is wide open, you have worn or missing parts (thrust bearing, etc.) in the governor.

A governor in that condition will not be able to pull the throttle butterfly closed enough to prevent "engine runaway".

If it is more than 1/2 hole "off" you MAY be able to adjust the length od the linkage between the governor and the carburetor enough. Otherwise, it's rebuild time.

You might also check to be SURE the carburetor's throttle butterfly plate is correctly in place, and that both little screws are present and TIGHT.

How much play in the input shaft? Did you replace with a new spring and have the hooks facing the outside of the housing? Are the springs on the throttle hooking holding tight the little fitting hooking to the input of the gov? Is the surge spring loose and not set too tight? Remove the screw and see what that does. If it is set too tight affects the idle speed. Is the linkage set correct going to the carb from the gov? All these things will cause bad throttle response.
