The throttle assembly on my 54 SMTA is in real bad shape. Need to replace/rebuild it. It has the saw teeth in it. I have seen some with a square notch plate. Which one should I go shopping for and why?

Try to look for a good sawtooth one before you put alot of work in your wore out one. They are out there. But if it needs to be ready for the show, patch up the one you got. We have a square notch one on the M, don't care for it much.

OK Thanks for the replies. I will do some brazing, bending, and file work on this original assembly. My goal on this SMTA is a top of the line resto, that is in the hi dollar (9000+)
category. Hope to have it done for DAKOTAFEST 2006 in Mitchell SD.But it will be in the "Restorod" category with extra chrome,(stack, Starter, generator, Oil bath, fan shroud,PTO guard) some flame paintwork, and some glitter steps and handles.

IA Gary. Pretty rare to see someone taking a cheap shot on this board. Reread my original post. I asked for info on why or why not.Nothing to do with originality. Thankfully I found out that the notched one was expensive to buy, the M/W good and the sawtooth OK. I didn't see much of a reason after the info I got, to toss mine. But if it will make you unhappy, I'll have it chromed!

Well back in 94 at the Hookstown Red Power round up i took my S/MTA and it got set in by some S/MTA's that had a bunch of that crome stuff along with base coat clear coat paint and when they were doing the video for the show they picked two S/.MTA's to be in it that were done the correct way and were as they were from the factory so mine and one young boys tractor made the video and the only thing that is not as it came from the factory is the M&W throttel that is on mine . The guy that had the fancyed up one setting next to me was vary upset that his cromed up one did not get in and the two guys doing the video told him why they did not pick his .

You might also look for a M&W style friction throttle, they work well and no one seems to complain about them not being stock except the perfection police. (to whom I do not listen) JimN
