Bought a 400 in need of much TLC. The only good thing about her is the nice sheet metal and thats my first problem.I couldnt get hood apart ,the screws were all rusted tight. What do you guys do to replace the little nut holders that hold the sheet metal together. Also I found the coil was wired differant than the batt, what problems would that cause ? Tractor has a 12v batt and no resister. I will probally have more questions later . Thanks.

The nut holders are usually delt with by akward efforts to ger behind the panel to hold them. If not twisted off, using a piece of 1/4" masonite with a 5/8" hole in it to protect the tin, weld a 1/2" (wrench size) nut to the top of the round head screw. The heat of arc welding the nut in place will likely free up the threads. If twisted off, they are easier to fix. Remove one side of the sheet metal retainer and replace the nut, then reshape the flap and braze it in place. (be careful not to distort the metal with heat on the surface tin. Use permatex brand anti-seize compound on the new threads to prevent further grief. JimN

Sounds like you may need some new cage nuts. At least I think that is what they are called.

If the battery is - negative grounded, your coil's
small - negative terminal wire should go to the distributor. You may need a ballast resistor if your coil is still 6 volts. You could use a 12 volt coil from NAPA that doesn't require a resistor. I think the number is 1C14SB. Hal
