I'm replacing the rear axel bearings on the right side of my '44 M. The book says to take out the carrier bolts. They are behind the bull gear and I can't figure out how to get to the lower forward one. Any ideas?

If your replacing inner and outer axle bearings and don't want to remove transmission cover.Drain oil remove PTO,jack and block up rear, looking in PTO hole there will be a 3/4 inch bolt and big washer in end of axle.Put a wrench on it and use wheel for leverage and turn axle to rear for right side until bolt is loose.Remove wheel, put something under bull gear to keep it from droping down, remove 7 bolts on outside of axle housing and remove from tractor.Remove 4 bolts from cap on end of axle and remove axle from housing.Remove 4 bolts and 2 plates that hold inner bearing to remove. If just replacing outer bearing the axle housing can be left on tractor and a push bolt can be rigged up to push axle out.If you don't want to lift housing and axle togeather you can take axle out and then housing like that if replacing both bearings.
