I have a question pertaining to my 1977 International Tractor. I bought second hand, and am wondering if they come with a vent pipe?
I have problems with fluid blowing out of it.
They have a small T and they have the hydraulic line coming back to one side of the T and they have a plug on top with a split in it (to relieve the pressure of the tank). I believe that it should have a vent on it, I don't they have the right system on the tractor, I think the return line is too close to the plug.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Cyril

Could the vent on the filler plug next to the gearshift be plugged up ?

Ben

More info the lift box housing on top of the rearend only holds about 4 gal and then overflows down a standpipe into the rearend/transmission sump.

Hi Cyril, in the past on my Dad's farm we had 434 and later 384 with loader these are same tractor as 444 but as Hugh says there were slight diffences with UK and US built units. The ones we had were all UK built. They had 1501 and 1550 loaders all plumbed the same as yours and no vent hole. The return line from loader control valves went to a T that had a nipple screwed into the filler hole of the hydraulic reservior located behind the seat. The top of the T had a solid pipe plug in it. Had both of these tractors for a total of 20 years and they were giong every day as we used them to feed corn silage out of a bunker silo. Never had a problem with hydraulic system attempting to vent. Should be no pressure in hydraulic reservoir unlike the larger IH tractors that have a combo transmission/hydraulic reservoir.

Couple of thoughts on your problem:
1)Hydraulic reservoir is over full.
2)Filter on suction line out of reservoir is clogged.
3)Not Hytran hydraulic fluid and it is frothing or there is a leak on suction side and you are getting air into the system.

Cyril: With a 444 you should indicate where you live and whether you have a Louisville, US built or a Doncaster, British built 444. They are different. US built tractors were sold only in the US, while the British built tractors were sold in Europe and Canada. Add a bit more confusion to this Canadians and Americans have done a bit of trading during the past 35 years.

The serial tag will give the needed info. For quick ID, US built has swept back front axle, British built has straight front axle.
