He has a B that would run 30 minute to an hour then die and he wasn't getting gas. I went over the help him out this morning and heres what all I found wrong. First he had an in-line fuel filter on it, yep one made for a car and it was very hard to blow trough it. I told him throw it away. 2nd he had to run it with the choke cloesed all the time. I pulled the mian jet plug and sprayed it out real good with carb cleaner and that fixed that problem. Then he asked me about the air cleaner and what it was and how it worked. So I opened it up and there wasn't a drop of oil in it. I cleaner it out and filled it with oil. Now it runs god no choke sort of funny how a number of little things can keep something from running right.

I agree with you completely except I use inline fuel filters on all my tractors. An M under heavy load will get plenty of gas through an automotive type filter. His must have been plugged up. It really keeps sediment and trash out of the carburetor. It seems most of my sediments bowls are missing the screen and the inline filter replaces that.

He has no problem with the screen as a matter of fact he just put a new one on. I agree you can use an inline filter but if you do your better off with the ones made for a motorcycle of lawn mower since they are made for non fuel pump type fuel systems

It's also amazing to me that some folks will never do any type of maintenance, and then wonder why the tractor suddenly stopped running.

He has changed the fluid in it and flushed the cooling system he just doesn't understand things like oil bath air cleaner and carbs/fuel system with no fuel pump. Hes learning and I keep getting free beer LOL. Well I guess the beers not free but the work isn't hard either LOL

Hi Old, Well I think its nice that you helped him out !!! But I would recomend you tell him to at least buy a service manual to keep himself out of future trouble, thats unless you want to keep gettin the free beer :")

Plus he knows I have the book and the knowlege he needs when it comes to these old tractors. I even have a B parts tractor also

Old, you keep him in a good mood, because I see a lot of those County Mounty's in Camdon Co. each night I go through there.

Old, it sounds like you do know which side of the bread to put the butter on. There are some folks that wouldn't understand how to do it even if they had the manual, so then we step up and keep the old girls running for them. It's a good deal for both.

Yep thats what I figure. Plus with the people he knows he might even pass my name on to others that need a tractor or 2 fixed and I can make a little $$ on the side to boot. I can't do a lot any more because of my disabiltys but I'm also not dead yet and enjoy working on old tractors. What it took me 15 years ago to do in a day now takes me 2 days to a week to get done. Oh well thats life

I thought that was only effecting me, I see I'm not alone. Son has been over hauling a M, told him I can remeber R&R a head by self, now I can't hardly do one end, but on the other hand I can still get out and around!!
