Hello,
I was running my H yesterday and noticed at low speed and idle it seemed to be trying to flood out. I made the mistake of shutting it off and it took forever to restart, and had all the classic symptoms of a flooded engine. Is the carb out of adjustment, or perhaps a float problem. Thanks, YC

Yellot, I have had an H do that, once when a tractor mechanic was at the farm, he walked over to the H, tapped the side of the carb with a screwdriver and it started to run smoothly. Sometimes the float just sticks enough to make the tractor run rich and flood, may happen once or twice a year, a few taps on the carb and away it goes....Mike in Exeter Ontario

Yes, but more likely there is a small piece of rust under the needle valve seat. Disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly is in order. If it had run for some time without flooding, float adjustment should not be it. Floats don't usually adjust themselves. It could be the float started leaking, however, so check it while it is out.
