I am not an expert on cubs, but I kind of doubht that is a 74'. I didn't think they were red by that time, and this one has a rounded profile. What do you think?

It's possible that the lower bolster has been replaced with a late model one bearing a 74 serial number. The hood and wire mesh grille indicate 47 - 54.

The Cub looks like the ones manufactured between 1947 and 1954.

I'm not an expert either, even though I do have a 76 Cub. But from what I've read, the square grill redesign was first used in the fall of 1963.
If you go by the serial number from the ad, that does relate to 1974. I can't explain why.
The following link offers some more information.

300uguy: I don't know exactly when the Cub got the square profile grill, but would expect it happened around the same time as the rest of the IH lineup be it Farmalls or Internationals. 1958 in the change over from 30-50 series to 40-60 series. Like it's larger offset brothers A, SA, 100, 130 and 140, it most likely happened when the 140 was introduced. I haven't seen the add.
