I don't know what is wrong with me, but I think I get bit by some Farmall bug or something, and I have been stracken with an illness! My grandfather owned a Farmall when I was a wee lad. It was the first vehicle I ever drove, and the memories have stuck with me. Well, I recently moved to farm country (I am active duty Navy, grew up in the city, so I've never been around farms much) because my base is stuck in the middle of California. So I start seeing Farmalls all over the place! I was talking to a friend of mine in Washington, and he just inherited his grandfather's Farmall A, and he's going to restore it and use it in parades! "What a great idea!" I thought. So I called my Dad and talked to him, and it turns out through what he told me, and what I found on the internet, that my grsndfather owned a later '40s M and H. I don't remember which one I drove, as the look the same, and both are huge to the eyes of a child. So, I see this tractor junkyard, and visited it this Saturday. THey had junk, but on the way I saw a very old looking small farm with a Farmall sitting in a field with some other stuff. I can't see it very well from the road, so I get up the nerve to drive up to the house. I intruduced myself as a loon who just wanted a closer look to see what kind of tractor it was. So the farmer takes me to it... or should I say THEM... He has sitting in his field a late '40's M, and TWO H's! None of them worked for various reasons! I didn't know what to do! I wanted to buy all 3 right there! But what the heck am I thinking!
I don't have a truck.. just the family SUV. No trailer. My house won't be ready until mid-Sept, so no garage to work on them. No where to store them. No way to pull them out...ok, let me be honest... I could come up with solutions for all of that. I could rent a rig and a huge trailor. I could probably store them in long term storage on my base... I can work on one at a time once I get a garage. But there is one big problem... I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF TRACTORS, WHAT-SO-EVER I'm ranting. I realize. It's late. I should be sleeping. But I can't get the image of myself driving these restored show tractors in a parade out of my head. I have a sickness, and I have no clue what I am going to do about it. Should I ask the farmer if he would give them up? hmmmmm
