Super H Starter

I just bought a 1953 Stage 1 Super H. The starter thats on it is a Delco 1108016, which has the saddle mount starter button on it with the push rod. I believe this to be correct because there is a mounting bracket under the gas tank for the regulator and the starter off a H will fit but theres no room to install the wire. All the pictures I've seen of the Super H don't have this type of starter. I'm wanting to keep this tractor original so is the starter I have with the saddle mount correct or not, or was it just an option that doesn't really matter. Also where I'm trying to get a new starter they are saying that the starter I'm asking for is for a Super C, are these starters the same?

They always say the only dumb question is one you dont ask. So here goes. What does the "stage 1" mean. I was raised on H's and M's and just bought a Super H to fix up but I am not familiar with this phrase.

Thanks, Gene

Stage I has the same 164 cid engine, disc brakes, faster 2nd, 3rd, & 4th gears but battery under the gas tank & the transmission driven belly mounted hyd. pump. Stage II has the battery box seat & hyd. res. under the gastank and the distributor mounted live hyd. pump, plus the 300/350 style front bolster with the pivot points for front mounted cultivators. Plus the Stage II's seem to bring about $1000 or more at auction than the Stage I's. IH only built about 10,000 of the Stg. II's & 19,226 of the Stg I's.

Thats the correct starter # for stage 1 SH . Serial 501 to 13339 used a pull rod. Serial 13340 and up stage 1 used a foot lever and rod. Same starter for both though.

Our stage 1 has the saddle sw. there is a rod that goes to a step rod to the left of the steering support post. The rod pulls on the lever on the SW.
I do not know how many variations were put on Hs of various years, but there were many. I hope this helps. JimN
