I am restoreing a 1939 M and converted it to 12 volt and really happy with that. I am running an altenator right now but would like to get back to the original look with out going back to 6 volt. Is there a 12 volt generator that I could use that would have the same shape and size as the 6 volt one? Thanks Paul

From about 1962 to about 1976, lots of IH tractors used 12 volt generators. Cubs, 140s, etc. By 1976 most had alternators as original equipment.

A generator from a 450 should be close to the same physical size- mounting, tightener, & all else.

Paul, Try Classic Generator in Texas. Saw their website www.classicgenerator.com a couple of weeks ago. They advertise they can build your 6 volt generator into a 12 volt and look factory original but prices weren't noted. Their phone no. is 817-473-1448. Hal

Your local auto parts store such as NAPA may have a 12 volt generator. I have one from a garden tractor made by Delco Remy. Hal

I have a 300-U that I Installed an early 60"s delco generator on it, from an old Chevy, It is 12V, and was easy to install, fits under the hood nicely.
