I can't get Grandad's Farmall 130 to charge.... I have replaced the regulator, had the starter and generator rebuilt, and replaced the battery. None of this has made any difference. I am getting ready to replace the wiring next.

Is there something I am missing somewhere? I know the easy answer is to switch to 12 volt but don't really want to.... Thanks for any help.

Matt

Since you have replaced virtually the whole system, it is probably a bad ground. You will probably clean up your grounds while converting to 12 volts anyway. So converting to 12 volts will fix it too, just cost more.

I second the motion on seeking John T's advice. And I'm all for keeping the 6 volt. The archives suggest that many 12 volt conversions are done just to solve problems that should be fixed in the 6 volt system anyway.
Also I just finished rewiring a 240 and it was only about $55. When I add in the peace of mind that I get from knowing it is RIGHT that means a lot to me.
I don't mean to insult your intelligence but you did polarize the generator? I don't know what would happen if it weren't done but these forums said "Do it"; so I did and I haven't had problems.

Look in the archives for John T electrical diagnosis procedure. It is the foundation of knowledge in charging. You may need to polarize the generator (not mentioned in your post) good luck, JimN
