What are the size piston rings I need for my 1946 farmall H with the serial # of 240477 x1? Would these work?
4 compression rings, 1/8 inch thick
8 compression rings, 5/32 inch thick
4 oil rings, 1/4 inch thick
thanks Nick

In addition to what Rusty said, I would say that the cylinder size needs to be included in the spec. If they are for that piston set, and assuming it is stock, the rings should be correct if they are for that bore. New rings need to have the end gap checked in the bore. Put a ring in the bore down near the bottom of the bore where wear is least, parallel to the top of the cylinder, and flat. Check the gap at the point where the ring ends come together with a feeler gauge set, they must be in spec. Do this for all rings in all cylinders they will go in. If you use rings described like those you speak of, they may not be the same, and your cylinders may vary as well. The failure to do so will result in seizure of the engine, or terrible oil use and blow by. Good luck, JimN

You need piston rings that will fit the pistons you have. It should not be up to to worry about how thick those rings are. That responsibility is up to the manufacturer and supplier. When the supplier starts giving out that kind of information, I start to wonder about them.

it all depends on the pistons in your tractor. You would need to pull the pistons out of your tractor to determnie the ring set you will need.
