400 D Tranny leak

All, I have had my 400D for several years but while hauling wheat recently it began leaving a severe blood trail. It appears that the tranny fluid is spewing from the little breather cap on the PTO assembly. It leaks profusely while driving or just setting and idling. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? What could be building pressure in the case?
Thanks in advance!
DeWayne

The Ft. seal in the PTO is leaking and allowen the oil level of the rear end to seep out thru the PTO breather . This is not a hard job to repair . Drain the rear end or park the tractor on a steep slope so all the oil runs foward and pull the PTO out as there is only 4 bolts to remove and slide the unit out and pop the old seal out and install the new one . Drain and refill the pto as it has it's owen drain and level fill plugs and refill the rear end . Ya need one big O/Ring and one seal . Now if ya don't want to pull the tractor down to fix this then just add a 4 inch pipe nippel and one coupler and raise the breather up higher and don't worry about it till the rear seal starts to leak then fix both.
