I'm in the process of timing my H. Here is what I done so far. Please tell me where I'm going wrong.

Got the # 1 Piston on the compression stroke and the piston at top dead center.

The timing pointer is pointing at the first notch on the front pulley.

Turned the mag so the notches line up with the mag drive notches.

The roter is pointing to the #1 on the dis.cap.

I have one question. On the dis.cap there is a 1 stamped in the cap in-between two of the plug wire terminals, is #1 the top terminal going counterclock wise?
Thank You
Carl from Michigan

Carl, #1 should be about the 1 o'clock position on the cap..looking at the cap from the wire end.

The first notch on the pulley is timing advance (advance = happens first) so turn the crankshaft to the double set of notches that are about 1/8" apart. That is Top Dead Center (TDC). Aim the rotor to the 2 o"clock position & put it all together. The rotor turns clockwise. Firing order is 1-3-4-2.
Using a continuity indicator, rotate the distributor body clockwise so the points are closed and then slowly rotate the distributor back until the points just open. Lock the 2 capscrews down and you are good to go.
