I need to paint the wheel rims on my M and would like to remove them for preparation and painting. The tires have fluid in them for weight. Can anyone tell me approximately what a 13.6 x 38 tire filled with fluid on a rim would weigh. Thanks.

If you are going to restore those rims properly, you need to drain the fluid, remove the tires and tubes. See my post re "SMTA Rim Resto" a few pages down on off the archives. And why do you want fluid in them anyway ? Gordo

I was trying to figure out if I could move a wheel around with the loader on my JD 445 garden tractor. It sounds like the tire and fluid make that too much weight to handle with it. Someone had repainted the tractor (not for show). They sanded, but never paint the wheels so they are now rusty. Not bad though, so unless I can figure some way to move them around off the tractor, will probably do the best I can to sand, mask and paint them on the tractor. I have a loader on the M and use it occasionally. Maybe I don't need fluid for it, but don't know. What would I do with fluid if I got rid of it?

Don't jack it up far enought to lift the tire off the ground. You want to get to a zero point where the tire is squashed down just from it's own weight. If you get it right you can unbolt the tire and pull it off the tractor without the tractor moving up or down. Have a place ready to lean the tire against. DAve.

Removed the rear loaded tires from my W6 with an overhead crane. Just be careful and have someone help you.

Jerry, Say you have + - 50 gal fluid in the tires, @ 8lb/gal= 400 lb in liquid ballast. Tire, tube,Rim will go about 150 lbs + - . All in all you should be in 550 lb ballpark. A tractor w/ loader will make short work in moveing it around. Do not drop the tire for it will require a loader to get it back up. Two people should be able to handle rolling it around quit well.
Laater,
John A.
