Thanks CNKS and w gatewood. I'm going to call Easy Bob about the steering wheel Monday. Just how "OUCH" easy is he? Someone needs to send me a e-mail so I'll have a shortcut to this site. Many thanks to all and even old (or young)what's his name. One other thing, OEM's catalog gives the casting dates for a 58 IH as D. My IH 240 Utility axle's, brake housings and transmission/rearend have R1 and R6 cast in them? Am I missing something? GA Dave.

I have not dealt with Easy Bob, but he is not the only seller, and is competitive, according to his ads. The casting code you are looking for is in the form of 1*8*D or Jan 8, 1958, the * looks like a screw head. Very visible on most cast parts. The R suffixes are part of the part number. Anything higher than R1 indicates a newer version of the original part. Shortcut? if you are using windows go to "favorites" at the top of the screen and add it.

I'll look for the * in the castings. Got paint spray in my eyes today. Nose also wearing a dust mask painting the radiator cover, hood and gas tank cover. I call my IH240 de dawg. A fitting name until I get it restored. Thanks again. GA Dave.

Dust masks for paint are worthless. Go to a farm store and get a charcoal mask, about $35. I assume you are not using hardeners, if you are you need a positive pressure supplied air system. Get a full face mask if you are getting it in your eyes.
