A gear, with a flat belt pulley mounted to it.

The bracket for the shaft it pivots on is snapped off.

There is a grease cup, with the cover missing, on the pulley side.

Drive for a cream separator? Part of a Tom Thumb engine?

What you have is a 1/3 reduction gear/pulley for the 1 hp Famous water cooled and air cooled Tom Thumb to operate a cream separator. I have been looking for one for years for my Grandfather's hopper cooled. It was a factory option with a different main bearing cap on the ignitor side that had a flange to mount this to. If you wanna part with it, drop me an email, I'd love to have it.
Kevin

Can we arrive at a fair value, or should I put it on ebay?

Part Number? The letter part sometimes narrows down the equipment types it may have come from.

I didn't see a part number, although, now, in looking at the top photo, there MAY be a number, slightly visible, ending in "L". As I said before, I guess I'll have to clean it up, and look for numbers. I was just trying the lazy man's way, to see if anyone would recognize it.

According to Guy Fay's book, an L suffix is ensilage cutters and Ronning ensilage harvesters.

That sort of reminds me of a part on a grain speartor my parents have in one of the buildings. Another name for the thing they have is a grain fan. If I remember right its a maytag.

I think you are referring to a fanning mill, although I don't know about the Maytag part, unless they had used a Maytag engine to power the fanning mill.

This gear has the old IHC logo on it, I guess I'll have to clean it up enough to look for casting numbers.

Bob you have to remember years ago a lot of companys made just about anything, and in this case maytag made a fanning mill, has and letters maytag right on one end of it in big bold letters. But yes it was at one time set up to be worked either by hnd or with a hit/miss engine and belt. Of course what you have could be one of who knows what part for what. Shoot at one time IH sold refrigerators, LOL

The Maytag fanning mill thing surprised me, as I have never heard of them, but, of course, with this old stuff, there are a lot of variations between what was sold, or was popular in different areas of the country.

I did find a reference to a "Maytag One Minute Mill", on the 'net, but no photos, as of yet.

I'm thinking they must have not been too popular, due to the scarcity of information on them?

It's probably a good "collectors piece" to have, you lucky guy!

They also have a sears corn sheller, at one time they asked me to sell them but I'm not sure if I should or not. If I don't then I inhert them if I do then it helps them money wise so its a sort of catch 22
