Hi Fellas, I haven't posted for awhile how's everybody doing. I just wanted to drop a note to everybody about distributors. The parts for the inner workings are getting very expensive. If you have one, you may want to check it out for wear. Move the rotor back and forth and it should spring back into place. If it doesn't it is a good sign that it needs work. Also if the inner bushings are getting wore it makes it hard to get correct point gap. Take that plug out of the side of the housing if it has one and install a zerk and give a small amount of grease to prolong bushing life. Some may be to far gone.. A good distributor makes for a good running engine.

Tim: Your advice is good to a point, You say, "small amount of grease", but don't say how often. Best to tell the guys, "Consult the manual".

Good to hear from you Hugh and point well taken . Fellas a small amount of grease goes along way in this application. The main distributors I was worried about was the neglected ones or the ones you see on ebay that look like they have seen better days. Better to be safe than sorry. That shaft that runs thru there is priced pretty steep so check things out.

See ya Tim k.

Tim: I'll pass along a little tip an IH serviceman gave me many years ago. When IH built these tractors white automotive grease that is used on car door latches, hood, trunk, etc., hed not yet been developed. He advised me to use that for lubricating the distributor drive. Especially beneficial here in Canada and our cold winters, but he recomended it for summer as well. Stays in the gears better than regular grease.

I don't use grease zerks. I buy the white grease in squeeze tubes and once a year I remove the plugs on distributor drive and put it in the hole with squeeze tube.
