Hi Guys, Yesterday was my wifes only day off for a week so we desided to go shopping we went to wally world and I found something I thought was neater than heck, Its a CD PC game Called AMERICAN FARMER, The only problem is its made for JD or by JD It says create and manage your own successful farm with american farmer , You'll decide what crops to plant, Livestock to raise, Employees to hire,Equipment to purchase and structures to build. Plagues,Weather, Market trends, Employee skill level and much more will play a role as you make decisions that will detremine the ultimate success of your Farm. I just thought this was neater than heck to play on a rainy day, Or for the Kids. I just cant help that its JohnDeer , Again Not my fault I doubt that IH would ever make something theese days that someone would buy. JON

Jon: We can't, or at least I wont fault you for that. John Deere should have the perfect tractor by now, at least they have coppied everyone else's good ideas. John Deere have some good equipment and I'm sure they have some loosers just like all other companies.

I farmed with primarily IH equipment, but I also had some NH, MF, Case and Deere. In fact the Deere was the last new piece of equipment I bought. I can tell you, had I continued farming, there would have been more Deere equipment.

Having said all that, I have not changed my thoughts over the past 40 years. I've yet to see the perfect tractor. I have not seen any tractors from the old line up of mainline companies of the 60s, that didn't have at least one feature I liked. This spring I have been operating some new and some of the largest tractors from CaseIH, New Holland and Deere. I have not changed my opinion on the perfect tractor, I've yet to see it. Yes, there were features I liked about each and everyone of those articulated tractors, but no one has it perfect.

Interesting. When I was a kid, my Dad was shop foreman for an IH dealer in Oregon, & he brought home a board game called "Farm Management". As I recall, it was relatively complicated, and used a spinner that was a drum inside a square box to determine moves. You had to select crops, get them in on time, maybe even took into account some variations in weather. Winner was however had the most $$$ at the end of the season. I'll have to see if my mother still has that - bet some IH collector would go nuts over it (not that I'd give it up). I'd completely forgotten about it until I read this post.

My uncle was an IH dealer also, and we recieved the "Farm Management" game for a Christmas present one year. We sure had fun with that game. I'm sure my mother threw it away. She doesn't keep much of that kind of "junk".

While not a "game" per se...Case IH has developed a very robust Combine simulator that is part of several e-Learning courses that they have on harvesting. The simulator allows you to adjust many functions of the combine "on the fly" and see how it affects other systems in the combine and overall performance. They also have interactive courses on basics of agronomy, weighting & ballasting, and other topics.
