I just bought a IH 990 haybine and the gearbox has some bad bearings in it and I tore it down and it has some collars that the 2 seals seal against and nothing to hold these collars on the shaft, seems like it should have a snap ring or something to keep them from sliding out and letting the bearing slide out,. What holds these on the shaft? I hate to ask a stupid question but I don't know and want to fix this one right so this doesn't happen again. thanks

Hi , Not an expert but I put new seals and bearings in my gearbox a while back and my retaining collars that the seals rode on were tight . They should have a tight interference fit . I checked the dealer and they aren't available seperately and the whole shaft isn't either but you might want to double check on that . You might get a machine shop to make some for you , they should be easy to make and put on . Maybe tack the old ones back on with a welder on the outer end ? Sorry I couldn't be more help . Where are you located ? Good luck ...Randy

Thanks for the info Randy, I also read your post on implement alley. I live in east Texas but I am going to get this haybine up and running. I may just tack weld them collars on the shaft after I figure out where they need to be located. Thanks
