I apologize for more questions and yes I am going to get a service manual but....I have been trying to get the seal out from behind the left brake drum. It appears that it is a double seal...by that I mean two rubber seals one behind the other. The steel casing that the seals are in are attached with six bolts. Am I going to get in trouble if I take the six bolts out and push the seal out from behind? And if I ruin the gasket behind the six bolts will I be able to get a new one from the dealer in Wisconsin? Thanks so much for your help!! Happy 4th!

That's a common question, do as the others say and you will be fine. Just dig the seal out, being careful to touch only the seal. You can put in 2 seals if you want. Grease the outside one, it will last for a while before it dries out. I don't know that the second one is needed though. The original ones were leather and much thicker than the new ones. But, the new ones are better.

Bootman, listen to Harold, you could bust the bearing cage if you mess with it. Use a tiny punch or picking chisel and collapse the seal housing, if you can bend a side of it down and get vise grips on it you can pull it out, some recommend drilling a small hole and screwing a metal screw in , then you can get a hold of the metal screw. I have had luck getting a sharp punch between the seal casing and the tractor housing, once you can do this you can collapse the seal inward and it will then come out very easily. I use the new neoprene seals and you can position them in a different part of the shaft to avoid the groove that has likely been made by the old seal. Remember the bearings are behind that seal casing so be patient and work carefully , it will come out. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

DO NOT try to take that plate off. It is the bearing retainer for the pinion shaft bearing, and it is notched out on the back side for the axle bull gear. If you try to pull it out, it will catch on the bull gear and probablly break. I did that exact thing once on a C, and it was a long time before I got back on good speaking terms with the owner, who was my father. Just find some way to destroy the seals from the outside, and pull out the pieces. One thing that sometimes works is to screw a dent puller into one side of the seal and beat it out .
