Anyone out there with parts books or manuals on light duty IH disks built in the 1960s. I have a 16 blade, tandem, single point fast hitch disk, bought new with a 1963 Farmall 140. This disk has 7/8" square arbor bolts. The bearings are two piece insert type of gearsable bearing.

As the disk had several worn or broken blades and badly worn bearings I decided to restore it. The disk blades are available from several sources including CaseIH. The bearings are no longer available. Someone had obvoiusly run this disk for days without greasing.

If I am going to spend much money on this disk, I'd like to increase it to 20 blades. I know where there is a doner disk and the guy says it has good bearings. This would also give me the extra blades and spacers.

One thing is holding me back. I have a 1968 buyers guide, which lists a model 120 disk available as 1 point fast hitch, 2 point fast hitch or Cat I 3 point hitch, 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5 foot sizes. This 120 model is listed in the buyers guide as having 1-1/8" square arbor bolt.

What I'm wondering is just maybe the disk I have is a Cub disk and was never built any larger than 16 blade or about 4.5 feet wide. Did IH ever use the 7/8" square arbor on 20 blade and larger disks. Just curious why, by 1968 IH went to 1-1/8 square arbor bolt? I really don't want to spend much on this disk if it wont stand up as 20 blade disk?

Hugh, I have a bunch of disk bearings, New Old stock. I wonder if they would fit. I also have spacers. Here are some part numbers. P1835 and PA 1512. Opposite hand PA1834 and PA 1512. PA1834 and PA1511. Bearing inserts (I think) P1559 I have 43 of these. P4105 I have 16 of these. I have others as well, so if you know part numbers, let me know. I also have some square shafts.

Haas: I sent you an e mail. I've got quite a busy day ahead, thus it will probably be evening before I get back to you. Thanks for your help.

Hugh not sure this helps. The 10-A series pull type dicks had 7/8 axles and the 9 series( 9-A, 9-B and 9-BA) had 11/8 axles. All IH disks that I remember had crip center disk blades.

Mingo: Actually that may be quite a bit of help. I'm thinking all those old disks with 7/8" square arbor probably used the same bearing. As I recall that 10-A was available with 4, 5, 6 or 7 blades to the gang or in the case of a tandem disk 16, 20, 24 and 28 blade disk. I wasn't too awfully concerned about the bearing. Just curious if they ever used the 7/8" arbor on more than 16 blade disk or 4 blades to the gang. Thank you very much.

The bearing on my disk, two halves are held together and mounted to frame by two 1/2" bolts on 3-1/2" centers. If that is not exactly the same a bit of fabrication will fix that quickly. My thoughts were to find a disk with good bearings ideally 5 or 6 blades to the gang and mount those on my fast hitch disk frame. I would then use the gangs I have as parts supply.
