Hi - I live in Medina, Ohio, and am looking for a rear rim for a 1940 Farmall H. It can be in rather poor condition overall, as long as about a one foot long piece of the actual rim itself (the silver part) is good. I took an H rim off of the hub today to put in a new tube, and there are multiple 2" by 2" sections in the rim that need to be fixed. The best way I can think of to repair these compound contours, without actually possessing any sheet metal skills, is to grind the holes until I get to good steel, and then weld in some patches that were made out of portions of the donor rim. Any comments, tips, or scrap rims? Thanks. Greg

Randy - First of all, sorry it took so long to get back to you. I took a short trip up to NY at the falls with a few friends, and didn't get back until now.

The rim that needs fixing is for a 12.4 x 38 tire. The outside to outside rim width is 10". The flat in the center is pretty close to 3". Is this enough to identify the rim? If you want to contact me directly, I am at skyparkohio@sbcglobal.net. Thank you. Greg

Magman - By coincidence, I was in NY yesterday and today. This tractor is stuck, and with a few other parts missing, I am not sure I can yet justify buying brand new rims. I am curious though, how much you would want for them. My direct address is skyparkohio@sbcglobal.net if you would like to use e-mail. Thank you, Greg

Greg. There is usually a lot of rotten metal here that does not weld good. I have done what you suggest and I know the work, labor and aggrivation grinding it down after finishing to make sure tube is not snagged by my welding...there are enough of these rims around to find one. Why don't you look a little first.
The last one that I did was with 1/8 inch sheet steel cut to the approximate size, tacked in place, heated and then hammered to shape and welded it in...wroked out good but a lot of work.
