How can I test to see if something is draining my battery on my 330u? When the key switch is turned off, the amp meter shows zero. When I turn the key switch once for power, the amp meter needle goes to the negative side a little bit. How can I test the system to see if the battery is being drained when the tractor is off?

When the switch is off meter should read zero. But when you turn key on it should show a little discharge as the points are likely closed and drawing a little current. Sounds like you just dont have a problem or the battery would run down.

the most common place is the starter, or starter solinoid if 12 volt.

The starter solenoid (12V) has been giving me problems since I replaced the original solenoid. What sort of problems cause the battery to discharge?

the 2 little posts on the top get loose and burn through giving it just enough draw to try the starter. Sometimes the armature in the starter get burned and it grounds out on the wall which will make it hard to start and draw lots of power while running or if the solinoid is bad it will ground it.

I have had the key switch posts come loose inside and draw power too with key in but not out???.

I would start with the solenoid first since that is always getting burned up.

The most sensitive test is to use a dial-type (not digital) voltmeter between the disconnected cable and the empty battery post. I have found battery drain rates of less than 1 volt using this method. Keep the top of the battery clean.

Take the battery cable off on the ground side. Put a test light in series between the cable end and the battery post.

With everything shut off, you should not get a light; if you do, something is bleeding.
