Thanks guys, I am a bodyman too and I just needed some numbers to get me started. I will probably use Deminsion base coat. That is the cheaper line of Sherwin-Williams, I use it a lot and it works good. I can convert the numbers you gave me. The customer wants a real slick job on it. I painted my D14 Allis this year with a urethane type acrylic enamel and it really has a good shine but I would would use base/clear if I was doing it again. Thanks for the help.

The DuPont number is 96766, Sherwin Williams/Martin Senour (NAPA) can also mix it.

Here's PPG's One Step Urethane paint number 71310 B.
It's their IH 2150 Red paint. I painted a Troy Bilt tiller with it and it looks fine. If you want to see it I can email you a picture. Hal

By one step, I assume you mean single stage as opposed to base/clear, I never heard it expressed that way. The letter following the code refers to the quantity mixed, pint, quart, or gallon. 71310 is available in both the Omni and Concept$$$$ lines. Also available in acrylic enamel.

You apply the base coat and clear coat with one application. That's where the "One Step" phrase came from. It has Omni on the can too.

PPG has discontinued the acrylic enamel. Hal
PS: At least in our area it has discontinued it.

I think you were misled by the salesman -- what he should have said is "single stage" or "one stage", as I originally thought, as opposed to two stage which is base-clear. I checked this on the Paint and Bodywork forum, you can read the responses if you like. Frank Stalfire is a DuPont rep, who understands the different kinds of paint. Rod(NH) has been painting for 20-30 years. I was hoping you had discovered something new. I believe you used PPG Omni MTK acrylic urethane -- same thing that Rod and I use, it is good paint.

I think the salesman referred to this paint as "One Step" so they may have coined this phrase. Most people that do not paint a lot wouldn't have clue when you mention Single Stage paint. This PPG urthane paint didn't look very red when observed in the can, but was very red and glossy after being applied. Hal
PS: This was the cheaper paint too at $29.00 for a quart and with the hardener and thinner was around $65.00 for everything.

Exactly the same price I paid for my last two quarts. Yes the terminolgy is confusing. Most people either say "base coat-clear coat" instead of two stage. I use the term "single stage" to differentiate between BC/CC and the "one-step" your dealer used. Then there are 1K and 2K paints, or one and two PART. 1K is applied without hardener, and 2K with hardener. The K may actually be the wrong term, just easy to type. I was hoping you had found something new.

It only took about a pint of paint to paint that tiller using the HVLP gun.Hal
