I have to replace a couple of gears with broken teeth on my 140 and probably a bearing. I understand that the Super A trans is the same as the 140. Will the gears out of a A or B trans be the same as the 140. Thanks.

RBH: I wouldn't go back any further than 52 Super A. Although the gears look the same, and have same ratios, the later tractors have gears with a different hardening process. I forget the particulars on this and exact serial number when the change occured. Ask CNKS he may know.

I don't know. I thought by the time the 140 arrived, that maybe IH no longer used the straight cut gears? My C transmission has the same gears as the Super A -- I just looked up the part numbers. My C transmission is quiet. The A,B,Super A transmissions are know for their noise, including mine -- wonder why? Only difference would be the final drives, unless I'm missing something.

from what i can tell the gears are the same in a b tranny as the super a.

so if they are the same in the 140 as the super a then you should be good to go.

I'm not an expert so someone else should come along shortly with the skinny.
