Hi guys,
I am the proud new owner of a hydro 100. I don't know much about these tractors, I farmed on my grandpa's 966 and 986 with TA but i have never been around a hydro. This tractor has 5060 hours on it, and a rebuilt engine. The hydro works great in low, but in high it seems like the hydro is slipping and i can't get any speed out of it, i did check oil but i haven't changed filters yet. where can i get some info on this tractor?

thanks for the help sheepdog. Let me tell you what i found out over the weekend, either in low or high when i apply the brakes with the engine idled up the tranny starts sqealing like all the oil is being forced over a relief valve or something. but it won't kill the tractor. is there some kind of relief valve or check valve in the system that i can service?

Couple of things could be happening. First make sure the foot-n-inch pedal (clutch) is not touching the floor boards. There is a needle and seat in the box it is connected to, that must needle must be closed or the oil will bypass. Second is the 5,000 lb relief valves in the center section. You'll have to drain oil to get to them. A 5,000 lb pressure gauge can be put in the little line that goes to the foot-n-inch pedal to see the pressures of relief valves. Also try this test you did this week end going in reverse. That might tell you the reverse valve is good. Or tell you that something deeper is wrong. A IT manual should be bot. There are more valves also.

Don't know where to get info, someone will know. Can tell you that hi range is only a gear that is speeding up the pinion shaft. If it works in low should be OK in hi. Now in saying that hi does take more power but still. If you are going down the road it should get to 18 mph without a load on the draw bar. If you can kill the tractor by holding the brakes, engine at 1800 or more rpm, pushing the forward reverse forward then it's OK. Keep the lever in the blue area tho. In hi or low range. If the engine keeps it's rpm then you have trouble. Piston heads are wore, plates can be scratched, center housing cracked. How much did you plan on doing with this tractor? It will make a great yard trator, baling, etc. Light work only. I would'nt pull a plow for very long. Ask more again. Good luck.
