Is an H engine the same as an M?

I was wondering if the engine on an H is the same size as the M. The reason being is my stepfather has an old H engine sitting in a shed and I'd pull parts off of it if they are to have some spare parts.

Thanks,
Bobg

I don't really need any parts of it right now, but was thinking if he decided to clean up and toss everything I'd need to get it now. I live 600 miles away and will be there for the 4th.

Thanks,
Bobg

What's wrong with taking the complete tractor? Besides, if the H is complete, even if it is not running, it would be a shame to start robbing parts from it.

If this is bare engine I agree not much will interchange maybe oil check cocks, possibly oil filter assembly and oil fill cap might be usefull, if engine is complete I would pull starter, generator and magneto/distribitor these parts will work on M, starter may not be as stong as M but it will bolt on.

No, they are not the same, and very few if any parts will interchange. What parts are you needing?

While they look similar the H and M are completely different engines. Just about every part on the M is larger.

About the only parts I'm aware that interchange between H and M engines are the generator, thermostat and maybe the starter bendix.
