Can someone tell me if the balancer is pressed on or threaded to the crank of a Farmall Super C?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Doug

Doug, here is what I made to remove the lower pulley on my son's SC. All materials that I used was what I had on hand.HTH

Looks like a good deal to me. I posted a Ho-made removal tool 'bout a year ago that has werked on all the farmalls I have used it on and it got shot down, guess it wuz not high tech enoufh fer'em. The one I made izz 1/2" plate. the main thing izz to apply the pull'in force to the plate and not the pulley.

HoBo,I don't see a thing wrong with your setup, the only thing that counts is that it did the job that you needed it to do. And who cares what it looks like the only person you need to please is yourself.

i have a lot of different tools that I made to do a specific one time job, most are not pretty just functional!!!

Man am I ever slipping, forgot to mention the main thing,---- I used porta power to remove pulley, but you can use hydraulic jack. There are some jacks that will work laying on there side.HTH

Keith: That is a well made tool, some might say a bit of overkill, however you'll be certain it doesn't give or spring any allowing any excess peasure on part of the pulley. Well done, I can only add for others, pay particular attention to the 3/4" thickness.

Morning Hugh, definently a little over kill, but I just used the materials I had on hand at the time. I have since redesigned, still using 3/4 plate. But I am using 5/8 althread instead of 3/4, since that is the size of althread I used to re-install pulley with hydraulics. Sure works better than beating it back on.

I drilled two opposing holes in the pulley, made a makeshift puller out of a impact socket placed on crankshaft, and a stout piece of strap metal across that with two matching holes to those drilled in the pulley. Two bolts thru the strap and thru the pulley with nuts on backside of pulley. Tightened bolts alternately with air impact wrench - slowly worked pulley off.

When I put it back together, I chilled crankshaft with bag of ice, and heated pulley to 475 degrees in oven (when wife was away!) used a piece of large pipe as a driver, and tapped with 10# mall went on suprisingly easily. Lubed crankshaft veery liberally. Hope it won't be a problem next time (or better no next time!).

You need to have a puller made like this. It was designed for a Cub, but with a few modifications it can be made to fit your Super C. Hal
