I've posted a picture of the brackets on my F-20. I would like to know what their function is. The bracket closest to the engine is spot welded (appears factory) to the tank support. The bracket closest to the operator is welded or brazed on. Thanks.

I own a 1938 with the same brackets that you show, and that factory welded piece is the spot where the clip to hold up the main fuel line bolts to. Congrats on the 20, btw. Good luck, as it looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you. Any more questions abt. it, feel free to email me or ask this forum, as lots of guys on here know what they're talking abt.
Michael

Thanks for the info. The tractor is in much better shape than it looks. Everything is there and it's only "lightly" stuck. I say "lightly" because I can put it in gear and rock it gently and the fan moves, so I'm hoping it's only a stuck valve.

I was mostly refering to the fact that any resto job is going to be a lot of work, esp. on things this old. Have fun with her.

Maybe they're versions I'm not familiar with, but those tank supports don't appear to be factory. At least they're not like any I've seen on an F-20.

Yes Ron, The late F20 used a welded support. But the choke guides are farmer added.

I'll be darned- learn something new everyday, thanks Howard!

If anything I'd have guessed they were earlier versions since they look a little more primitive than the ones I'm familiar with, but most likely were cheaper for IH to produce.

It makes sense that the nearest one in the picture is a farmer addition, but this one is spot welded to the tank support. I don't know many farmers who would have had the equipment to do that.

This bracket could be to support the fuel line like the treaded bracket on the older cast iron fuel tank supports.
