my saga continues I was cleaning up my hydraulic cylinder when I noticed that the shaft looked bent, When i took it apart I found pieces of the cast broken and lodged inside, from the shaft being bent it cracked the top of cylinder to Would just replace and be on my way but I really like the depth stop thing on the top, never seen one of those on a cylinder before, are they pretty common or easy to find

Wes,

Know what ya mean about the depth stop on those old IH cylinders. Really miss the darn things.

However, for $10 a package you can get the depth stop "washers" at any tractor store. Usually takes two kits to get the right combination to work on any given generic cylinder/implement setup.

It's a mindset thing,

Allan

well it has a hair line crack by the seal, but I put it in a tank with around 500psi of nitrogen, and it didn"t leak I dropped it off at a machine shop today and their gonna try to straighten the ram. the piece that is broke is a round chunck of cast that is on the inside of the cylinder that the ram moves through. Hoping it will still work and hold pressure even with this broken piece.

Wes,

They are just aluminum thick washers that clamp on the ram and make the cylinder "bottom" out.

However, if your only problem is a bent ram, take the thing to your shop press. They can be straightened very easily as they are just soft steel.

I thought you had a broken head on the cylinder.

Common as sand on X00 and X50 and other mid 50s to mid 60s FH equipped tractors. But thefeature has been used on other equip. Hydraulic shops should be able to help if they are sympathetic. In this day, they should be very buisy gaining your buisness through service. Good luck,
JimN
