Why is the IH Truck division giving away free gas caps for the older IH tractors? Was this some government requirement due to the danger of the old ones? The order form in the last issue of Farm Journal indicates they are available thru May '07. Why the Truck Division and not Case IH?

Ed

online? in reply to Reddy Ed, 06-26-2006 09:53:58
Wasn"t there an online order form where you didn"t have to mail it in? I searched the archives but couldn"t seem to find it.
Thanks

When IH sold the tractor business to Case they kept responsibility for some legal obligations, including the gas cap settlement. The old ones, when they weren't worn out, weren't vented properly and tended to build pressure which would cause spraying liquid and vapor when the cap was openned.
My old one, being worn out, stained the paint around the H's fill neck. The new one I can fill the tank all the way without spilling. Looks good, too, without the pollen. Kinda matches the aftermarket cap on the little tank.

This is part of the settlement of a lawsuit from several years ago. Something about gas either leaking out while the tractor is running over a bumpy field, or if the tractor is "upset" like rolling over. The redesigned gas caps are free to owners of I-H/Farmall tractors. You just fill out the form online and the caps magically show up in the mail. :o)
I got four of them for mine.

Phil
